Codes and Conventions

    In every magazine, conventions are utilized to perfectly organize and execute the final piece. Magazines display conventions in multiple ways that are specific their brand. 



  1. Masthead: top of the page, the title is typically in bold letters to attract readers, depending on the magazine
  2. Tagline: purpose is to inform readers what the magazine is about
  3. Cover line: gives the reader insight on what's inside the magazine
  4. Central Image: this image is large to attract readers and it is most likely the main story.
  5. Cover model: the cover model is usually a publicly known person or thing, so that it can grab a reader's attention
  6. Color scheme: attracting readers, it can be the same depending on the magazine
  7. Barcode: usually located in the bottom of the cover or last page, and is utilized for the reader to purchase the magazine

 The table of contents is just as important in the magazine as a the cover page. The cover page draws readers in while the contents page keeps them there. The contents page has the task of being diverse and but still on topic at the same time. It must also follow the same theme as the cover page for uniformity reasons. the cover page can be on a one page or a two-page spread depending on if there are ads placed in each magazine.  Here are some common content conventions: The title "Content" will be printed on the page in a large font, and is sometimes accompanied by the masthead title from the cover page.    The page number, magazine title, issue date,  web address and the editor's contact information will be found on the bottom of the page,    One main image will be included that indicates who or what the focus of the magazine is. Final Feature story

 This is my final draft that will be featured in the magazine. “All my life I have been up to my eyeline in boxes. ” These are the words of 17 year old Jada Lewis, the Teenage Nomad. To some that may be dreadful but Lewis seems to think otherwise. Lewis can be described as an army brat. “The term ‘army brat’ is used to refer to military kids,  it doesn’t bother me too bad”, Lewis says. Army brats tend to move multiple times during childhood and some may even travel across continents. “I was born in South Carolina! I was 5 months old when we moved from South Carolina to New Orleans, and I currently live in Atlanta.”   “I’ve lived in South Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, Virginia, Hawaii, & now I’m currently in Atlanta, Georgia! For this project I was able to develop my own personal thing, my  own personal branding for this magazine and I really appreciate that.  First with the masthead, I was able to put my masthead on the side and it’s called “Travelscene” so any type of, any story dealing with travel could be the feature story. Just in this case it’s about a kid who is military so she is a teenage nomad. Next, as it comes to color schemes and having images and taking photos I enjoyed the opportunity to do this.
