Masthead Reasearch

Image
When it comes to mastheads there are some that you can recognize as soon as you see it because it stands out. Many successful magazines keep their masthead the same regardless of what image is on the cover. Examples of these will be like time and rolling stone depicted below. Other magazines will change their mastheads to go with the color schemes of the cover page. For the magazine that keep the same masthead you will notice that they are red and in bold, two things that will always stand out against any 1 color. Personally for my magazine, I will be be going along with the color scheme for that particular issue to see how creative I can get.

Potential Color Schemes

There are many color schemes available but these happen to me the most common. For the magazine that I have in mind, these color pallets  are a little to extreme but i look forward to using different colors from each to compliment my theme.     Neon Pastel Nude Blush    https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.shutterstock.com%2Fblog%2Fneon-color-palettes&psig=AOvVaw28NT6ysjbbOzfbHQbZmYfH&ust=1610536210620000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCJDemoWhlu4CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcolorpalettes.net%2Ftag%2Fpastel-colors%2F&psig=AOvVaw0Go6E9r0r1EXSDAr04yN5i&ust=1610536240062000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCODe75Shlu4CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.color-hex.com%2Fcolor-palette%2F71444&psig=AOvVaw3NEu-xo5y8X7ejZpFHlZpM&ust=1610536283958000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCMCrkKihlu4CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD https:

Final table of contents decision

After reviewing different styles of table of contents, I have decided to do a two page spread without the ads. This space will give room to be more creative and I am very confident in my ability to photoshop a a table of contents that will be on point with my theme.

Table of contents page: research

The table of contents is just as important in the magazine as a the cover page. The cover page draws readers in while the contents page keeps them there. The contents page has the task of being diverse and but still on topic at the same time. It must also follow the same theme as the cover page for uniformity reasons. the cover page can be on a one page or a two-page spread depending on if there are ads placed in each magazine.  Here are some common content conventions: The title "Content" will be printed on the page in a large font, and is sometimes accompanied by the masthead title from the cover page.    The page number, magazine title, issue date,  web address and the editor's contact information will be found on the bottom of the page,    One main image will be included that indicates who or what the focus of the magazine is. Other smaller images which relates to the magazine's articles may also be included in the layout.   The title of the magazine's articl

What is Media Studies

As explained previously the magazine I'm creating is for my AICE Media Studies class. Today I'm going to go over what Media Studies is and what are its main concepts. Media Studies is all the forms of mass media that we engage with everyday, for example movies, tv shows, video games and social media (i.e. Instagram). There are four main concepts to Media Studies: Media Language Representation Audience Institutions  Media Language refers to all of the different ways that media texts can create meaning. For example the different Camera Angles used or the costumes, which are used to crate meaning for the audience.  This are called codes and they have a specific denotations and suggested connotations. Representations relates to how the media represents reality in their products. Basically is has to do which the different ways in which Media portrays a specific event or news. For example social media, the photos, captions and profile you have on a specific social media page repres

Using Compositions

I do not really understand the term composition, so this will be my interpretation.  These 3 images below were my attempt at making an extreme wide shot using the panoramic feature on my phone.

Using Camera Angles

log Post – Using Camera Angles – Take pictures demonstrating the three camera angles from the syllabus. Post these with explanations of the effect of the camera angle on the meaning conveyed by the image. If possible, have someone else take pictures of you taking these pictures (for a future post).                                                        This is a low angle but it conveys that someone is siting under an umbrella                                                        This is a high angle but it conveys that this view is from a camera looking down on this machine                                              This is a Dutch/canted angle

Viewing House Styles Presentations

  ·              From watching the film presentations, I learned that the story needs to be clear and concise. The film has to be entertaining but it also has to tell a story. The title needs to match your film so that there is a clear connection. ·     .      Some titles were clever and they were puns in away. The tables of contents did not look like a boring list. The feature image wasn't random, and it had to do with a story in the magazine. ·          Highlight at least three ideas you liked that you may consider using on your TOC. ·               I may want by feature spread to include everything in the magazine. I can really put my newfound editing skills to use here. There will be a summary of the major stories featured in the magazine.

Analyzing House Style Reflection

  ·           ·              Considering that I am  doing a lifestyle magazine, I am still trying to figure out something that is constant but different at the time. A technique like the one I mentioned it the previous blog post. ·                I am no longer in a group, we have decided to split based on creative differences. Com promise would be a better option that to stop and give up completely. ·              I have been working on my camera angles. I have been using editing apps in order to conceal people identities or capture a better lighting. ·   ·

First Thoughts on House Style

House style is what keeps a magazine uniformed, and it is also and identifier. A great example would be VOGUE magazine, they always have the same font and size. Another identifier would be that the vogue is always in font of the featured person, like a stamp, it is never behind. ·               House styles may be developed through trial and error, or polling the community for the most liked design. Both of these ways are very effective. The editor can look at multiple designs and pick the best one, or the public can pick the one they like best. The second option seems better seeing how the public is the audience/consumer. ·             House styles may be influenced by their genre in how they display the title. For instance, if the magazine's focus is arts and crafts then that title could be made out of popsicle sticks or yarn. This will help the magazine draw in their readers because they are showcasing their creative ability in coming up with a new idea for ev
